Re: Just how old is this embryo anyway??

It can't be possible that menstrual age, gestational age and u/s age are all the same age.

I am currently 8w0d since my lmp. I know that I ovulated on day 16 (Oct 20th) of that cycle. Therefore the baby is 41 days old. I had an u/s today and the baby measured at 6w2d which is a little further along than I thought (meaning that it is growing a little faster). Anyway, the u/s measurement is measuring how old the baby actually is. Since the baby wasn't conceived until Oct 20th (which was about 6 weeks ago), there is no way for it to be any older than that. So the menstrual age, gestational age and u/s age cannot all be the same thing. Pregnancy is 40 weeks from lmp, but the baby is actually only alive for about 38 weeks.

Am I totally off here?

Sorry if I am wrong or totally off base! Megan

Your confusion is that there is no confusion (what did he say?)

Menstrual age is the weeks since your period. Gestational age is the weeks since your last period and - guess what? Ultrasound measurements are based upon size of a fetus since ........... your last menstrual period.

Cool, huh?

the sono/dates discrepancy is 6 days. 3-4 days is acceptable at this point. they may alter your due date.

Hope this helps and write back anytime for more information.
