cysts on everything!From: Marsha (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Nov 2000 19:02:47 -0600 (CST)
At my yearly physical, my ob-gyn noted that my uterus felt "slightly enlarged" - about a 6 week pregnancy size. I went for a pelvic ultrasound. The results showed a cyst on my cervix, and a possible "tiny" 1/2 inch fibroid on the back of the uterus. Those did not concern me too much. However, there was also a 2 inch single-sac cyst on my right ovary. This has me scared. I have been on birth control pills for the last three years. Occasionally, including the month before my pelvic, I didn't get them refilled in time, and so I skipped a month of pills. My ob-gyn said the radiologist is not overly concerned and simply wants to recheck it in three months. The ob-gyn said she usually only likes to wait two months. The ob-gyn tried to be reassuring, and said that she has seen several women on birth control pills who still develop cysts. My question: Is this a reasonable approach and I thought that birth control use helped prevent ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer? Thanks so much,
-- Marsha Buck
