I HEARD the heart at 8w4d. WOW! How does it work?

I had an ultrasound yesterday. I was expecting to SEE the heart rate, but I didn't think I'd HEAR it for weeks. Suddenly, there it was--that rhythmic whooshing sound filled the room. It was just unreal!

How does this technology WORK to hear it so early? I thought doppler only measured movemement. Where is the sound coming from.

After momentary bliss, I, of course, started worrying that at 180bpm, it was too high. But I read here, and elsewhere, that 180 is normal (right???).

What an incredible experience. I will never forget it.

Maybe now I can FINALLY stop worrying about miscarriage (and go on to worrying about other things).
