Passive albuterol and Nasalide use during pregnancy -- Drs please? From: Linda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Nov 2000 20:09:02 -0600 (CST)
I am 12 weeks pregnant and have an asthmatic 4 year old. We routinely nebulize her with intal 2x per day. When she is ill and more symptomatic, we use 3 cc of albuterol (more specifically levelalbuterol)and 1cc of nasalide nebulized per her pulmonologist. Since she will not use a mask, we use the T blocked off at one end and mist her face. In doing so, I passively receive some of the medication. I asked my midwife about this and she saw no contraindications. However, I also understand that both products (albuterol and nasalide) are a pregnancy category C. Needless to say, my husband and I are now concerned since I have done repeated (8+ times) nebulizations since I discovered I was pregnant. Can someone perhaps shed some light on this? Surely, there must be pregnant asthmatics and therefore some "in the field" information as to how tetragenic (if at all) these drugs are. I am having an early amnio on the 8th, but this will only show chromosomal defects and I know that there are many other problems that can occur. Thanks for your help.
-- Linda
