+ anti-big E & monitoring via ultrasoundFrom: Nancy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Nov 2000 18:59:59 -0600 (CST)
This is my second child. Nothing came up + on my blood work with my 1st child. I am 12 weeks pregnant and tested + for this antibody on my routine blood work. The antibody ID showed a titer of 1:4. My doctor says I will be referred to a perinatologist at 20 weeks. Meanwhile he said the doctor doing my amnio (due to me being 35) at 16 weeks may add some tests, but it may be too early to provide anything helpful. Questions: 1)My doctor mentioned that they will watch my titer. I have read that my titer doesn't really reflect whether the baby is affected, so how is this helpful? 2)My doctor mentioned that the baby will be monitored via ultrasound starting at 20 weeks for signs of being affected by this antibody. He mentioned they will be measuring blood flow in the brain. What is the purpose of this? How often will they likely do the ultrasounds? How serious is this??? I have a friend who was + for this with her 2nd child and was never even monitored for anything related to this by her MD. Are they just being cautious with me? I have excellent PPO insurance. I know I will get more answers from the perinatologist, but hoped to get some info to hold me over!
-- Many Thanks, Nancy
