Fear of ChildbirthFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netTue, 28 Nov 2000 13:06:28 -0600 (CST)
I'm 2 1/2 months pregnant and I'm so scared. I've never been one to handle pain very well. I usually cry during a pap smear. My husband is so excited about the baby, but my fears are overriding my excitement. I have finally calmed myself down temporarly because my husband and I agreed that with the nature of my panic attacks near anything that has to do with doctors, nurses and hospitals... that I should probably go ahead with the epidural. However, I know they don't administer the epidural until your 5 centimeters. How much pain are you in up till then? How many hours can this time period take? How often does an epidural NOT work? I'm so afraid that I'm going to panic as soon as I go into labour. The only problem this time it's that its not for a simple shot or a fast pap smear. It's ! for long hours... how do I deal with my panic and hysterical outburst. I'm only 2 1/2 months pregnant and just the thought of what I'm going to have to endure has already brought about a panic attack. Please help.
