Your ob should not be using HCG's to follow your pregnancy at this stage of the pregnancy. At twelve weeks, a simple ultrasound will give instantaneous info about how the pregnancy is going. At 12 weeks, the fetal heartbeat can be heard in the vast majority of people, so you don't even need an US per se. The HCG is expected to double, but this is only in the very early stages of the pregnancy. I usually don't say this, but I would have second thoughts about how the office is following your pregnancy. I suspect things will go fine. Good luck.
