HCG Beta Test Levels UncertainFrom: Barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 27 Nov 2000 09:06:33 -0600 (CST)
I am twelve weeks pregnant, and after heavy (menstrual type) bleeding and light cramping on Tuesday my doctor ran an HCG Beta blood test on me. He indicated things looked optomistic, as I had not passed tissue, and my cervix was not open. I bled less heavily throughout most of Thursday, while remaining sedentary, until the bleeding curtailed. My second test was on Friday and my count increased from 82,753 to 83,048. The nurse informed me the number should have doubled in this amount of time, and I need to have another blood test done this afternoon. I am in my twenties, this is my first pregnancy (no abortions, no miscarriages,) and I am finding my health care representatives to be very confusing. Is there anyone who could explain to me the situation and what may likely happen (I know it's just an educated guess,) and what I should do--I feel that there must be some faster way of finding out if my pregnancy is viable, then waiting for these bloods tests, almost a week after the fact.
