Probably not labor. Labor is uterine contractions that cause the cervix to dilate and thin. Usually the entire uterus hardens and it lasts 1 minute and comes at least every 5 minutes and hurts like hell. Stripping the membranes is inserting a finger between the cervix and the membranes (bag of waters), and forcefully separating them (not the same a breaking the bag of waters). if you are close to being in labor, often times this will help to tip the scales. If you are remote from labor, it will usually just cause pain and bleeding, IMHO. Hope this helps.
