herpes & deliveryFrom: Nancy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 31 Oct 2000 17:31:09 -0600 (CST)
I am looking ahead to our delivery in several months. I have genital herpes. Although my outbreaks are rare (Q 18 months) and mild (one small sore), I am thinking about requesting an elective c-section. I am a nurse and very well informed about herpes and pregnancy and delivery. I realize the risks are extremely low of infecting the baby if I am monitored closely, but part of me just wishes to take NO risk at all and have a c-section. Is this an option or will most doctors refuse this approach? The only other alternative I will entertain is having a vaginal scope (name?) at the actual time of delivery to be sure there are no internal lesions. I have excellent Aetna PPO insurance.
-- Many Thanks, Nancy
