Exercise is a great idea in pregnancy, but you have to follow a few common sense guidelines. Avoid getting over heated, drink more water than you can imagine, avoid bouncy or impact exercises, and keep your heartrate <140 bpm. All exercise should be aerobic, meaning that you should be able to breathe steadily throughout the exercise. Do not push against a closed throat, like while lifting a heavy weight.

Your OB doc should have printed materials to give you dietary guidance, but one way to encourage yourself is to pretend that you are actually feeding the baby instead of yourself. For some of my patients, that makes their choices much clearer.
