Second ultrasound to see the faceFrom: Les (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Oct 2000 19:37:00 -0600 (CST)
Hello: I'm 20 wks and went for my first ultrasound last week. Everything seemed normal, but what do I know, and they certainly don't tell you right then. Got a call from the midwife today, 'they' recommend a second ultrasound to get a better look at the baby's face. She told me not to worry, nothing's wrong, but this is my first, long awaited pregnancy so of course I'm going to worry! Is having a second ultrasound just to see her face common? Why is it so important? There are two reasons I'm bothered by this-first of all I saw the baby's face during the ultrasound, the tech even showed me the lenses of her eyes! Could the tech just have neglected to snap a picture at that moment, so the doctor reviewing the info didn't have a face shot? Secondly, my husband has a cleft lip, which I've heard is hereditary (is that true?) My layman's eyes couldn't tell from what I saw if she has that. Has anyone been in this situation or can shed some light on things?
-- Les
