Re: Ovulation and HCG Questions..From: Alisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 22 Oct 2000 14:26:23 -0500 (CDT)
Rachel - I have done a lot of reading on various boards, and finally decided to call my OBGYN with questions. As of today, 10/22, I am 17 DPO and 2 HPT's show negative. I have learned that some pregnancy tests, like Fact +, will pick up HCG starting at 250 miu's, while others like "Confirm" will pick up as little as 50 miu's. I had been testing with Fact + when I found this out, so perhaps the test I'm taking isn't sensitive enough! Talking with another woman on a chat board revealed that her HPT turned positive at 19 DPO. So don't fret. Yes, HCG levels do vary widely for each woman. My OBGYN stated, quite logically, that most women don't know they are pregnant until 1 week after they were due. This puts a normal-cycled female at 21 DPO. That's not to say HCG hasn't accumulated enough before the 21 DPO, but it gives you something to think about. My OBGYN said I could wait another week, or go in for a blood test, which, at 17 DPO, would provide a definitive 'nay' or 'yeah'. Some women produce very low levels of HCG at first. So if you want to wait a bit longer before taking abother HPT, do so, and try either "Confirm" or "EPT". If you feel you want a more definitive answer, request a blood test from your OBGYN. In the meantime, act as if you were pregnant and take care of yourself.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Alisa
