Fetal kidney cysts/renal pelvis dilatation and choroid plexus cystFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 14 Oct 2000 20:18:44 -0500 (CDT)
I am 23 weeks pregnant and at a perinatologist appt on 10/11/00 I was told that my baby boy has three bilateral cysts on his kidneys and some dilatation of both kidneys and it was also noted that he has a choroid plexus cyst. I opted at that point to have an amniocentesis and will get the results in two weeks. My question is, although I have been made aware that these two anomalies are markers for chormomosal abnormalities, what is likely the cause of the kidney trouble? The perinatologist briefly mentioned the possibility of kidney reflux. I am concerned that the baby is suffering kidney damage. Of course at this point I am also afraid of finding out that he has Down's Syndrome or some other chromosomal abnormality. My AFP results showed my risk to be 1:6,000 even though I am 36 years old. I do have three other healthy children. Thank you for your time.
