Can fortified cereal plus pre-natals lead to excessive vitamin intake? From: Starla (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 30 Sep 2000 03:08:50 -0500 (CDT)
I am trying to conceive and have been taking (non-perscription) pre-natal vitamins (that conform to the guidlines that I've seen in most pregnancy books) for 3 months. Most days I eat a fairly well-balanced meal, and I excercise at a moderate to intense level 3-4 days per week. I have recently noticed that the instant oatmeal that I eat (daily) supposedly contains 100% of the RDA of several vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A and D, folic acid, iron and most others contained in my pre-natals. Am I ingesting an excessive/harmful amount of vitamins (in particular A, D, K and E) by eating such highly fortified cereal in addition to taking my pre-natal vitamin supplements? Should I switch to a less-fortified cereal? Please advise. Thank you.
