I'm certainly not an expert, but it certainly seems fairly common for puppies/kittens to just die overnight. I suppose if every one of these animals were autopsied, a cause might be found for a lot of them. But I suspect a lot of them just die for no real reason. And since we don't really know what SIDS is, it's hard to determine if it's the same problem. These unexplained deaths of the animals is mother nature's way of "weeding" out the weaker ones.

It's probably actually a lot less common among humans than other animals. No scientific data or anything, just a general impression from life experience...

Just my 2 cents.
