?? About blood countsFrom: Beth (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Sep 2000 16:08:12 -0500 (CDT)
I am 10 1/2 weeks pregnant & have been seeing my Family Dr. for some joint pain I've been having. Upon receiving my bloodwork results, she was surprised because she was certain that rheumatoid arthritis was the cause. However, the rheumatoid factor she tested for was well within normal range, indicating that was NOT the problem. She is sending me to a specialist, though, to investigate the cause of this pain further. I will be seeing him in a little over a week. The one thing that concerned me is my white blood cell count - 11.3 (normal range is 3.8-10.8) and my absolute neutrophils - 8419 (normal range 1500-7800). Are these elevated enough to be concerned about? She didn't seem to think so. Should I just wait to see the specialist and see what he says?? This blood sample was taken 3 weeks ago. She said at most, it indicates a minor infection of some kind & may be unrelated to the joint pain. Any thoughts? Can you ease my worry?? Thanks! ~Beth
