Re: stretch mark prevention during pregnancyFrom: Tonja (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 16 Sep 2000 12:34:56 -0500 (CDT)
Probably not the answer that you want to hear, but some skin is just genetically prone to stretch marks, regardless of efforts taken to prevent them. You can try keeping your tummy well moisturized during pregnancy to increase elasticity and minimize itching (and maybe the marks themselves?) if they do appear, but I think the hard truth is if you're gonna get 'em, you're gonna get 'em! Heredity is thought to play a factor as well. I have a "recipe" that someone gave me during my first pregnancy for preventing stretch marks that's a mixture of olive oil, aloe vera gel, vitamin E (from capsules), and Vitamin A (also from capsules). I actually tried it - it didn't work, but it eased the itching associated with the few marks I did get on the lower abdomen (that never showed up until about 3 weeks before I delivered!). Hope that helps! Tonja
