Clomid, luteal phase defect and progesterone ????

My recent cycles I have had less than 10 days between ovulation and my period. I have been ttc #2 for awhile so last month my dr prescribed clomid... for although I am ovulating. He stated that it would help with my luteal phase and possible give me the boost to conceive. Well, I took 50 mg days 5-9 ... and ovulated according to my chart on day 15.. and then my period came on day 24! Don't know what is up with that! So went and saw my dr.. he checked for cysts and nothing. thankfully. He upped my dosage to 100mg days 5-9 and I asked to get my progesterone checked. He said that would be fine.. come in on day 20 of my cycle.

Does anyone know anything in regards to clomid and luteal phase defect? What level should your progesterone be at to show that you have ovulated? Does it raise if you are pregnant? Thanks for any information you can give.
