Re: could I be having a miscarriage or could I still be pregnant?From: adeline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 13 Sep 2000 04:28:57 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Michelle.. What you experienced sound like mine. I did a home pregnancy test about 2 weeks after my period was supposed to arrive (which showed a positive) and later that evening i did a second test (which showed negative). A few days later, i bled like a normal period n had bad stomach cramps n blood clots. I went to see my OB when my period flow eased. She was quite sure i was pregnant n had lost the baby. I did 2 BHCG tests a week apart and confirmed that i did have a spontaneous miscarriage. My OB said my second result showed a faint line in the test window because i took the test late in the evening when the HCG levels were low so looks like your test kit might be right. The only way to find out is through the BHCG test. They can even confirm whether you were pregnant in the first place (from the drop of HCG levels). Apparently 25% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. I have come to terms with the loss (although very painful and i still tear when i think about it) but the important thing now is that if you did have a miscarriage ... whether you might have to do a D&C. I think that would be more tramatic. I was lucky and my uterus was clean so did not have to do a D&C. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that things will fine. Take care.
