Why not have it checked in the second half of the month (the luteal phase) prior to pregnancy?

The correct answer is "it may and ut may not". Recent studies indicate it may not.

As recommended in the archives, we usually recommend waiting til after the first period, if only to be able to know when that is.

It takes days to weeks depending upon the person and the circumstance.
