James Philip is here!--Long & one more question on PIH for doctors in Postscript

I just wanted to thank everyone [doctors and lay people] who posted responses to my questions on PIH.

I was induced [due to PIH] on 7/25 beginning with the IV at 11:30 am and I had James Philip at 4:55 pm. We had hired a private labor & delivery nurse [due to bad experience with the hospital nurse during my first sons' birth].

I did not get an epidural---she really helped with getting me to concentrate through the contractions. They also [although pitocin engendered] so much easier than the back labor that I had with my first son.

At 4 pm. I did get a shot of something called new morphia sp? which helped me to get my concentration back -- I had begun to hyperventilate --- and thus my breathing.

All in all everything went fantastically.

James was 8 lbs 3 oz and 19 1/2 inches at 37 1/2 weeks.

Regards and thanks again, Ann-Marie

P.S. My blood pressure was still elevated two days after birth 150/100 so they redid all the labs for PIH and everything was once again normal. The ob resident said that sometimes you can get worse after delivery although it is rare. Two days later I went to my ob for a blood pressure check and my bp was 168/84. They did not seem that concerned about it and said that it will probably come down over the next several weeks. I am not scheduled to return until my 6 week appt. in early October. Is this the normal standard of care [after so much monitoring of bp while pregnant this makes me a little nervous]. Thanks in advance!
