Re: inducing labor

I think you and your family should have a very candid talk with your daughter-in-law's care provider about the specific reasons s/he is recommending induction. This shouldn't merely be a medical decision, but one that should be made with the patient's input as well.

I feel for you...I have some strong opinions about induction and share many of the views you have expressed here. Unless there is a clear-cut medical reason for induction, I believe that a baby should be allowed the opportunity to come into the world when s/he is ready.

My primary advice to you is not to feel as though your DIL doesn't have a voice in the matter. If you have a concern, by ALL means, express it.

Hopefully, it'll all be a non-issue anyway and she'll go into labor all on her own. :-)

Best of luck to you...

Tonja

>my daughter in law does share these concerns or else I would not have asked the question. Obviously she intends to question her provider, but we merely wanted some opinions from this source. We are close & she doesn't have access to a computer. Anyway, we read that labor should not be induced unless there is some problem & also that induced labor is much harder than spontaneous labor. Also due dates are sometimes incorrect & the baby could be born too early with problems that might require NICU stay. We just wanted some experienced advice in addition to what we know so far.
