While it's true that they do like to see a heartbeat via vag. U/S by 6 1/2 weeks, anything is possible in pregnancy. If it helps any, one of my best friends had a vag. u/s at exactly 6 weeks last year, they saw no heartbeat, went back again at 7 w/2d and lo' and behold...the tiny flashing light she had been waiting to see. Her daughter is now a healthy 2 month-old.

Unfortunately, your sister probably won't know anything more until her next appointment after the 2nd U/S, so try and encourage her until then and hang in there!
