TTC after Miscarriage

We have just miscarred, so obviously we will not start trying right away. We need some time to deal with this emotionally, which I suspect will take at least a couple of months.

Just trying to make sense, though, of all of the different things I have heard about when it is OK to try again.

My Doctor says that after a NORMAL (meaning definitely of the usual sort you would experience, nothing odd) period or two, it is perfectly fine to start trying again, even though I have had a D & C.

Elsewhere I have heard/read that getting pregnant only two or three months after a D & C leads to increased risk of miscarriage and/or controllable (but bad) pre-term labor. Many people suggest as many as 6 months of rest for the uterus.

Is this just another case of the sorry state of research on women's reproductive health--i.e., no one really knows. . . or are there some solid answers out there? What would the doctors and nurses on this board recommend?
