Hi Ann, I had to reply to this because I had gestational diabetes with my son about 2 years ago. They tested me early at around 7 weeks and found that I already had it. Then I had to have the 3 hour test too. Failed it too! Best thing to do that morning is not to eat anything. Try drinking water if your really hungry. If you fail that test too like I did, here's what I went through. First , I saw a dietician , they gave me an at home glucose machine and I had to test my sugar levels 2 times a day. Yes, you'll have to stick your finger...lol. You will basically have to eat a very healthy diet. Watch any sugars and limit your carb's also. All the extra sugar in your system can cause your baby to be very large...resulting in a hard delivery. If diet alone can't help bring your sugar levels down, you will have to use insulin to control it. I didn't get to that point, but it is possible you would have to give yourself shots. Another thing about all of this is watching what you eat, but making sure you eat enough of the right things. You'll need to space out small meals and snacks too. This is so you don't get keytones in your urine. It all sounds very complicated, but if you do meet with a dietician, they will help you understand this more clearly. One last important note, if your sugar levels fall to quickly at any time...Drink a glass of milk or a glass of orange juice to bring it back up some. Some of the symptoms I had when my levels were dropping were shakiness, headache, dry mouth. Mainly shaking though. Even my knee's would shake. In the end, after your baby is born, your diabetes should go away. But, like myself...Are at a higher risk of developing diabetes later on. My result in the end was a 7lb 6oz boy. My hard work paid off. I'm sure your's will too. Good Luck !!! Sincerely, Tammy Starling
