Non-Stress Tests

I have to go in bi-weekly for NSTs now and I am just wondering what good they do? What information do they provide the doctors with? (I understand that they demonstrate that the baby's heart rate accelerates, but does that mean that he's healthy?) Also, my little one has been non-reactive during the last two and has had to have bio-physical profiles done. Does a BPP provide the same information as a NST? Should I be worried if he's not doing well on the NSTs if his BPPs are perfect?

Thank you for your input.
