When to stop taking progesterone supplementsFrom: Angela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 25 Aug 2000 18:30:09 -0500 (CDT)
After two miscarriages and a low progesterone level with my last failed pregnancy, I was finally diagnosed with slight luteal phase defect. My doctor put me on progesterone suppositories (250 mg 3x a day) right after I ovulated and I've been taking them ever since. I am now 12 weeks pregnant and my doctor says I can stop taking them. I know the evidence doesn't firmly support the benefits of progesterone supplements in maintaining a pregnancy but I'm convinced I wouldn't have gotten this far without them. I'm terrified to just stop taking them cold turkey. Do you think it's okay to stop taking them all together or should I gradually stop taking them? I really appreciate any advice. I've tried to talk to my doctors about this but never get any real answers. ~Angela
