Early Placenta SeparationFrom: ABD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 24 Aug 2000 18:03:59 -0500 (CDT)
After a heavy bleeding episode at 12 weeks, I was diagnosed with a separation of the placenta. A blood clot is clearly visible on the ultrasound. My OB does not seem concerned and feels confident that it will heal in the next month or so and that everything will be fine. I am seeing the doctor evry two weeks and scheduled to have an ultrasound every month. I am now 16 weeks and have spent most of the past four weeks in bed. I am still bleeding (brown or dark red about like a light period). I have been reading about placenta abruptions and am a bit confused. I read that it is not classified as an abruption until after 20 or 25 weeks. Also, what I have read about abruptions has terrified me. Does anyone know how often these early abruptions heal? Should the continued bleeding worry me? Does bedrest really help? Is the bleeding likely to be from the clot? Please help - I am so scared and my next appointment is not until Monday.
