dangers of ortho trycyclenFrom: allyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 15 Aug 2000 15:22:08 -0500 (CDT)
i was on otc for about 6 months and i developed a blood clot in my leg. it broke loose and circulated through my blood and ended up in my lungs. i had what they call pulmonary embelizms. it's no fun. i couldn't breathe and i was hospitalized for a week. because i'm 17 and didn't have the usual signs of a p.e., the doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. i had to go through many tests to find out. otc can put one at risk for blood clots. being a smoker or overweight can increase those chances too. i just thank god that i didn't have a stroke or a heart attack. but for all of you who want it, think about it and ask if you are already at risk for blood clots before you use it. and don't smoke! i'm glad i didn't.
