SwellingFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 12 Aug 2000 22:22:17 -0500 (CDT)
I am 33 weeks pregnant and take Prednisone (20 mg/day) to control Lupus. This morning I woke up and my face was really puffy--enough for someone I hardly knew in my childbirth class to ask me if I was ok because I looked so swollen and tired. I always test positive for protein in my urine, typically +1 and the last two doctors visits my blood pressure has been slightly elevated (145-150/72-77). I have mild edema in my ankles and hands, but nothing serious and nothing the doctors have seemed too worried about. My question: is the puffiness in my face something to contact my doctor about this weekend or could it simply be a new side effect of the prednisone(moon face effect)? I know it is a sign of pre-eclampsia, but I don't really feel any worse than I have for the last few weeks, except for a horrible back ache all day (I have a history of kidney stones, so I'm sort of waiting to see if the back ached stays the same or gets worse. If it does, I think I have ANOTHER stone, but I realize it could also be a normal pregnancy ache and pain). I see my doctor Tuesday for a NST, can this wait until then?
