Paula, Some women seem more prone to bladder infections during pregnancy. I have found that as general principle, if a patient I am managing has a second urinary tract infection during the same pregnancy, I begin "suppressive therapy". That means that I have the patient take one antibiotic tablet every night at bedtime, in an effort to prevent any further urinary tract infections. I do this because with each urinary tract infection in pregnancy, there is a real risk of developing a kidney infection and they are not a good thing to have during a pregnancy. The symptoms you describe can come from pregnancy alone. To be sure, your physician must get a formal urinalysis and culture to assure that there is indeed an infection and further, what the bacteria is to assure the appropriate antibiotic selection-especially when it is a second infection...
