fistula following childbirth one year laterFrom: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 4 Aug 2000 21:22:20 -0500 (CDT)
One year after giving birth to my second child, I developed an abscess and soon after had a "cut" on the perineum which was then diagnosed as a rectal perineal fistula. During the operation to make the repair it was discovered that the anal fistula tracked into the vagina as well as the perineum. Do you think that the fistula relates to the birth of my child and if so what could have made it appear almost a year later?? I was sutured after delivery but I do not know to what degree the tear was considered. During the year following her birth, the area was always tender but basically was asymptomatic. Could a rectal vaginal fistula have been present all along but cause virtually no symptoms??
