OTC acne meds during pregnancyFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Jul 2000 14:47:25 -0500 (CDT)
During my first pregnancy no one told me not to use over the counter acne medications such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, so I know I did. I am now just a few weeks pregnant with #2 and my new doc said to use nothing. I have always had pretty bad acne, so this is troublesome for me. I have found advice from others on the net that say these preps are OK to use. What is your opinion? I currently use Proactive Solution (most used ingredient is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.)In the general warnings, pregnancy indications do not occur, but in one booklet I read, in the Q&A, they did not recommend it during pregnancy because it is a "medication." Do you think it is OK? Would something else be safer to use (besides nothing)?
