If you are referring to Prostin gel, it should only be administered in the hospital with fetal monitoring to observe its effect on uterine contractions and the baby. Studies have shown that of all women who reach 41 weeks, the cesarean rate will approach 40% if induced at 41 weeks and will be 2-3% higher if allowed to go to 42 weeks. It seems that reaching 41 weeks without going into labor is what increases the cesarean rate. RDB
