Maybe and Maybe not.

How long can this >last?

anywhere from 1 day to 24 more weeks.

Is there anything that can be done?

Not really, This could be totally benign of no significance or it could relate to some placental problem. There is no way to tell until after delivery and maybe not even then. Sorry, I know you want a better answer, but I don't think it is there.
