Re: Very odd miscarraige...Please answer me soon, thanks =)From: abaxter (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 26 Jul 2000 20:00:58 -0500 (CDT)
Danielle, What you described happened to me at 9 weeks. Yes, you probably passed the sac containing the fetus/embryo (baby). Some people miscarry this way, although I'm not sure how common it is. It is definitely normal to experience a lot of increasingly strong low back pain prior to a miscarriage. You should see a doctor to ensure that all of the supporting tissues are cleaned out. When I miscarried, I was at home, and it just sort of passed out of me like you described. Although my uterine contractions subsided after passing the sac, etc., a visit to my dr a few hours later revealed that there was still a LOT of tissue left. Your body manufactures a lot of tissue to support the growing fetus, so if you're more than 6-7 weeks along, you may need some medical intervention in order to prevent infection. As far as the sac/tissue that you saved goes, you may take it to the doctor, who will just send it to the lab to confirm that it is definitely a product of conception. (Standard procedure.) Unless the tissue is sent to a lab within minutes after it leaves your body, the lab cannot run any tests on it to tell you what was wrong with it. So, the only thing the tissue would be useful for now is to confirm that it was a product of conception. Giving it to the dr will allow him to send it to the hospital lab, where they can handle it for you. Don't worry, you'll get through it! Just see the dr to make sure you're OK. ab
