triple screen test questionsFrom: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 26 Jul 2000 09:35:54 -0500 (CDT)
I had a positive Downs result for the triple screen test and have a few questions about the research that I have read. (Mine came back increased risk for Downs with a ratio.) I have read that with the triple screen there is only a 5% false positive. And that it detects 60-70% of downs. What does that mean? I think I understand that even with the test coming back fine that it still doesn't detect 30-40% of downs. However if your test comes back positive/increased risk how does the 60-70% fit in. I know that there are factors such as age of fetus weight that have to be correct etc. But if all of these things were correct how often does a positive result end up with something being wrong? Thanks for any help you can give me.
