My doctor told me that if the baby I'm carrying happened to have positive blood (like her father) that my body would see her blood as a disease and would try to destroy it. My doctor also told me that if the baby happens to have positive blood after she's born, I'll have to have another shot of Rhogam but I'm not sure why that is. I'm not a doctor either but that's how it was explained to me.
