cramping at 39 weeks...

Hi, I am 39 weeks pregnant, and I've been having those cramps and back pressure that would not go away for the last two days. They stop and then they appear again (usually by the evening). I was seen by a doctor yesterday and he informed me that I was thinned by 75% and he could not tell whether I was dilated at all because "it was all the way in a back". I did not quite understand what he meant. How come he could not see whether I was dilated???? What does it meant to be thinned by 75%????? Could that be responsble for cramping???? Also, he said that he felt that the head was really low. Does that mean that the baby would be coming soon?

Sometimes those contractions get regular, but they never seem intolerable, and my doctor said that I would not be able to talk through a REAL contraction.

I am confused... anyone who could help me through some light on it is greatly appreciated. Thank you all!!!!!!!!!
