By my calculation, you are only eight weeks pregnant. the only way to check a heartbeat at this stage is with an ultrasound. If your doc thinks you are going to miscarry, you should have an ultrasound to check on the pregnancy. If you don't have access to one, certainly don't go through with surgery without firm documentation that the pregnancy is lost.
