Double edged swordFrom: Anita (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Jul 2000 05:16:28 -0500 (CDT)
Can the result of my not taking any dairy products have any affect on my breast milk?? Since having Zoe on the 15th June, I have been engorged in either one breast or the other nearly every other day or having painful lumps and bumps. With hot flannels, hot showers and a breast pump we have gotten around these problems and Zoe has been the perfect baby for a beginner sleeping for periods of 3-4 hours between feeds. However, recently Zoe seems to have colic and we have spent many early evenings to gone midnight up with her feeding, changing, rocking, hugging. Two days ago I read on the Net that dairy productions can sometimes be the main culprit for colic in breast fed babies. So yesterday apart from a little milk in my restricted 3 cups of tea a day (due to no caffeine)I cut out the glasses of milk, yogurt for breakfast and Flora on toast and bread along with the thought of any milk based sauces for pasta - I thought I'd give it a go for Zoe and for us - I hate to hear her cry and me and Dad would obviously prefer to sleep a bit more. Result, since 1 am this morning Zoe has been waking after being fed every 1-2 hours all the way up until now which is 2 pm - which as you can imagine has left me very tired and very sore - my breasts haven't been engorged and seem a little deflated if anything - is this a result of me taking out my dairy products or is it just coincidence and the beginning of me not being able to continue breastfeeding?? (I have been supplementing the milk intake with additional glasses of water, juice, etc).
