Amy, I understand totally what you are going through. I had an amnio done when I was pregnant with my son. The needle isn't as big as pictures or movies show. I was quite surprised. There isn't much pain to the procedure. The most discomfort was the pressure I felt when we withdrew the fluid for testing. I also had some cramping afterward. Best bet is to stay off your feet for a day or two following. That will help with the risk factors. I think they told me it was a 6% chance of miscarriage. What are they doing this for and how far along are you? That will help determine risks also. Hope this helps.
