Just some personal experience, yes, it works well, as long as your body is also ready for it, which is also pretty much true for any method of helping things along (like stripping membranes). If you are otherwise cleared for sex and are within 3 weeks of your due date, you might get the same results that I did. I would have approximately 8 hours of good contractions at 3 mins apart. I can't say that the contractions were doing any dialating and effacing, but I'm 39 weeks today and all I have to do to be admitted is have strong contractions again (I'm currently 3.5cm, able to stretch to 4.5 and 80% effaced) and this is my first baby. The contractions would stop before, but I was less than 3cm, which I understand is the "difficult" number to get past. Anyway, hope this helps, Missy (just trying to decide if we want to hold out for a 4th of July baby)
