Age and Trying to ConceiveFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 27 Jun 2000 16:18:35 -0500 (CDT)
I am planning to have tubal reconstructive surgery in a few months. I turned 41 two months ago and have no children. Doctor said my chances are greater with IVF however, I am concerned about "super-ovulation" and the potential of ovarian cancer. Here is my question --- is 41 too old to try to conceive naturally after tubal surgery (had them ligated 7 years ago and have a hydro since then)? Would it make sense to attempt IVF several times and then have ovaries taken out? Which has the greatest risk of birth defects - conceiving on own or IVF? Any response will be greatly appreciated. It's a lot to think about!!!
