Failed 3hr GTTFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 24 Jun 2000 01:16:29 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my second child and have just failed the 3 hour Glucose Tolerance Test. I've been referred to a Diabetes Center at the hospital, but don't see anyone until Monday. When the OB nurse practitioner called me, she said that my levels were as follows: Fasting: 92 1 hour: 214 2 hour: 164 3 hour: 129 She told me that I was high on both the first and second hours. Since I was normal on the third hour, does that mean that I actually have Gestational Diabetes, or is it borderline? The Diabetes Center did say that my OB practice is pretty aggressive when it comes to GD...would other doctors think that this is GD as well? I'm not planning on going against my doctor's wishes, just wanted some reference. I was told that we would try to control it with diet, and if that didn't work, then I would have to take insulin. I'll be checking my blood sugar levels 4x a day. Also, does having GD now put me at risk for adult onset diabetes later? Thanks,
-- Amanda
