Ketones in urineFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 20 Jun 2000 12:37:24 -0500 (CDT)
I've posted before about the problems I've been having with nausea and vomiting and your insights have been very helpful. Thank you. I went to my MFM doc today and tested positive for protein and large ketones in my urine although I haven't lost any weight over the last week. I left his office feeling extremely frustrated. None of the meds are working and he essentially told me that my inability to keep foods down (I vomit 20+ times a day) is posing a tremendous risk to my baby, but he had no solutions for me other than to try to eat and to try the new medicine (Zofran, which is more than $25/pill. We don't have prescription insurance and I have no idea how I am going to afford it--I can't). I have to see him every week now, even though they can never do anything for me when I'm there, except tell me to hang in there. Here are my questions: 1. What's a normal course of treatment for someone like me? 2. What are the risks to the baby of having ketones in my urine? 3. How long do they let a problem like this go without doing something about it or isn't there anything they can do?
