Pelvic relaxationFrom: A.P. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 17 Jun 2000 19:15:44 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Docs, I am 34 y. old. After the birht of my first and only child, at 33, I experienced great heaivess in the pelvis for days. I also discovered that my vagina became "closed" because part of the upper vaginal wall dropped. My cervix is now about 2 inches deep in an upright position whereas it gets 4 inches deep when lying down. I supose I have a mild relaxation with cyctocele. Here are my questions: 1. On the average, anatomically, how far deep in the vagina is the cervix in a healthy women who had a vaginal delivery? 2. I was very active during pregnancy and after childbirth, jogging, doing sit-ups, walking. Could such activites contribute to a prolapse, or worsen an existing one? 3. Would a second pregnancy worsen such a conditon? 4. What would be riskier: another pregnancy alone, or another vaginal delivery? 5. Is a C-section recommended as an alternative that would prevent a further prolapse? Thank you so much for clarifying for me these issues on a topic that so many women want to nkow but are affraid and embarrased to ask.
