Percocet and PhenerganFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 3 Jun 2000 18:55:31 -0500 (CDT)
I am 23 weeks pregnant and was released from the hospital four days ago after being treated with i.v. antibiotics for a kidney infection. My doctors think that I may be passing a kidney stone in addition to the infection they treated. Consequently, I am taking percocet to help control the pain of passing a stone. Additionally, I am having severe nausea and vomiting (so bad that I had to back to the hospital a day and a half after being released to get a refill on fluids--I was seriously dehydrated). The doctors have me taking phenergan to help control the nausea and vomiting. I am concerned about taking so much medicine. When I ask my doctors about it, they say that these meds are safe for the baby--unless I take percoet on a regular basis until the end of my pregnancy and the baby becomes addicted, but I am still extremely worried. Can you give me any insights about the risks these meds pose for the baby?
