Group B Strep

I looked in the archives and on the "Group B Strep" website but didn't find an answer to my particular question.

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and at my last check-up asked my OB about Group B Strep. He told me he doesn't normally culture his patients unless they have certain risks such as previous baby born with GBS, fever in labor, premature rupture of the membranes, etc.

My question is: Should I ask for a culture even though I don't fit the criteria? Do most OB's test all their pregnant patients at 36 wks. or is it common to just test those that are at risk?

I have another appointment on June 6th and want to approach him again with this as I'm uneasy about the risk of having a baby contract this disease.

Thanks in advance :-)
